One of my go to breakfast places when I go to Maui. Service was good. Food was good. My friend got an omelette but asked for rice. It came with a hash brown, but the waitress came back with rice on the house. I got the chop steak, sice it had been so long since I've had it. I usually get the omelettes or pancakes though.
A tucked away corner of heaven. Their noodles were amazing and portions generous, well priced and worth the stop. The staff were welcoming and attentive to the needs of different guests. I need to bring my parents here to settle who has the best local noodle dish. The broth they serve with the noodles elevates it to another level. Forreals, detour and stop by for a local lunch you won’t forget.
We made it to Sam Sato's on our last day on the island. If we had been earlier, it would have been the only place we ate the whole trip. The dry noodles were amazing! We also really enjoyed the Saimin. We placed our order to go because they were busy. I can only imagine how much better it would have been fresh and hot from the kitchen. Try the Manju! It is so unique, but really good. Prices were the best on the island. Staff was very kind.
Since we live on O'ahu, I always enjoy making time for this little place. The service is always good here! And I love the food...I can never complain about anything. The prices are so-so... but because it's yummy, it's worth it! Lots of parking & there's always a wait... but they move fairly quickly!Order the dry noodles... always a must!
This is a bustling, family started, family owned restaurant. The food is affordable and excellent. They specialize in homemade saimin noodles, but their menu is very extensive. I would highly recommend this historical eatery. You won't be disappointed.
It's awesome the food is great The place is great and you even get to see the old pictures of Sam satos of what it used to look like but however if you want to eat here go before it's 12 and 8 because that's when it gets packed and you have to wait until they call your name
This is not your typical noodle shop. They offered different flavors than you might see in the mainland. Some say the dry noodle wasn't flavorful, but I really enjoyed the noodle texture and subtle flavor. Once you add soy sauce (Shoyu) and some of their hot mustard it had a good balance if flavor. Get a beef stick these are like candied beef with the sweet yaki flavor.
Think nostalgia, mom and pop old school kind of feel. This is apparently a staple on Maui and I can see why. The food did not blow me away but it was comfort food that reminded me of going to old family-run restaurants back in the day. The dry noodles and manju is what I was told to try and that I did. Both were good. The parking lot was decent but filled up fast. Street parking was easy to find. The bathrooms were not great but sufficient. We were seated outside so there were some flies but it wasn't really dirty. All in all a worth it experience. If you're looking for comfort food, by all means, stop by. If nostalgia and classic Hawaii local food isn't really your thing or doesn't matter to you, you're probably better off going somewhere else. As for me, I'll stop by again for sure next time I'm on Maui.
Great food best noodles on the island you have to try this place I love this place
Great food, been coming to this place since I was a kid. The dry mein is my favorite and so delicious.
Local favorite for breakfast and lunch Great dry noodles and hamburger steaks. The desserts include various flavors of manju, great for omiyage. Gets crowded quickly for breakfast and lunch, so get there early or expect about a 30 minute wait for a table. Courteous staff, very friendly. Parking lot usually full, so street parking or overflow available. Added amenity for Pokemon Go players...there is a gym located at Sam Sato's!
Great food and everyone there is very friendly. The place is always busy and and the wait can be a little long, but it's all worth it once you get in to eat.
Family owned for decades, service was excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful with questions and dietary concerns. Dry noodles were awesome! We couldn't leave without buying a few boxes of pastries too. Definitely a fabulous local spot! And easy on the wallet.
Solid four stars. Small joint. Long lines. But friendly staff and good food. Not AMAZING food. But very good.
When visiting maui this is a must stop place. Always have to get myself some dry mein
This is one local spot I seem to always stop at whenever I'm in Maui. They're open early especially when I arrive before 8am. Coffee, breakfast and a side of dry saimin. Simple comfort food.Since the last time I was came here, they've moved into technology. Orders are taken on an iPad. But it's the same small town ohana vibe.Right at the counter, you can pick up fresh manju and other local kine baked goodies to go.Always support local businesses.
The bottom was my cha siu hor fun...... my god, can you have any less ingredients than this? Not just that it was dry and didn't taste good at all, the colouring was very artificial as you can tell and I've never seen hor fun so wide and thick and in a stack in my life!My husband's noodle soup wasn't that great either and the skewer was just alright!Worst thing is...... everything was overpriced! I am not sure why there would be great reviews for this place as it is not authentic at all! Maybe their food can fool non-Chinese people but let me tell you, real Chinese food are nothing like this! I wouldn't recommend this place! I seldom leave reviews but I MUST warn other people before they make the same mistake that we did! :(
Loved the vibe! Very local and just no fuss dining. Noodles were good :)
OMG you 1st timers to Maui gota visit this place, staff, location and local food items really represents local cuisine experience.
Delicious breakfast. I think the best we had on Hawaii and really the best we had during our West Coast USA drive. Real home made meals 👍👍👍👍
I. LOVE. IT. HERE. Food always on point, always delicious. The wait can be long, but you may be lucky to only wait for 5 minutes. There's counter seating too!
Excellent noodle shop. It gets really busy, so be prepared to wait a little bit to get in. The dry noodles are good and fresh. The kimchi at this place is excellent and should be ordered with your noodles to add a nice contrast to the dish. Service is excellent and prices are really fair.
Great customer service. Local feel, noodles were simple but good. Hot cakes were good. Prices were very reasonable. The donuts and hand pies were good!
Noodles are amazing! Gotta try the dry noodles, that's there speciality. And the skewers go great with the noodles, especially their beef skewers. I gave them a 4 though because the service isn't that great, but they serve a lot of people. Be sure to come early, as a line forms quick!
Dry noodles and beef stick, so cheap, so fast, and so so good. Worth the trip from wesside every time. There’s a secret hot/sweet mustard behind the counter — ask for it!
A Maui institution for over 60+ years. It is renowned for its saimin, manju and friendly local service. Be sure to look at the artwork and wonderful black and white photos.
This is a Maui landmark. The food is delicious and the portions large.
One of my favorite spots. Good local home cooking. Dry noodles was unbelievably good! Banana pancakes a great treat, and all so inexpensive. Staff is always nice and welcoming. Hamburgers are a great quick eat and the French fries are ALWAYS perfect 👍👍👍
The food was awesome. The ladies here all were so nice and made us feel like family. Got the combination plate and the spare ribs were amazing. People come here for the dry noodles which were also very good, but for me the spare ribs is why I will be back. The parking lot is tiny. The entrance is full of boxes and very shady looking. The interior is minimal and run down. It is a hole in the wall with great food, great prices and awesome people. Stop by for lunch, you will be happy.
Stopped here for lunch and it was quite busy! Service moved fast though so as long as you don't have a big group it shouldn't be too bad. While I liked their Saimin I liked their dry noodles even more. Overall a great place for lunch if you are in the mood noodles!
This place never disappoints me. Very family oriented with a great atmosphere! Will always be going back there when I'm in town...
What can I say about Sam Sato's that others haven't already said? Well, it is amazing and arguably the beat saimin on Maui. First off, the service was top notch. When I approached the wondow to pit in my name, the young lady offered to seat us immediately. When I mentioned that my mom (Grandma) was walking from the car and it would take a few minutes, she immediately came and opened the door. They seated us quickly and took our orders right away. They were friendly and treated us with true aloha spirit. I ordered dry saimin which was perfectly ono. The fresh noodles are tasty and cooked to perfection with a slight chewiness that addrd texture to the dish. The garnishes were great and complimented the noodles wonderfully. The side of broth was loaded with flavor. Grandma ordered the chow fun. These noodles were perfect, tender and seasoned to mouth watering deliciousness. We loved eating here and the family atmosphere they exude. We ate here twice in 1 week!
Fun place old school place with great noodles!
Love this place been going to it ever since I was a kid. Love their double dry and cheeseburger Deluxe.
Still taste the same. It’s been a perfect time to come as the tourist season has slowed down. The noodles are what people come for. It’s a little starchy but does taste good. The dry comes with the broth on the side if you want to wet it up.
Not my favorite type of food. Place is small, but service was really good. Had dry noodles. They were chewy. Pork was good. Beef skewers were amazing. Turnovers were dry, but flavorful.
Sam Sato's is hands down the best noodle house and local breakfast/dinner joint on this island. It is always busy, so I've learned the perfect time to show up and avoid a wait. Takeout only today due to the national quarantine, but still excellent.
Great lunch place for generous portions and a good price. It’s located in an office park so very popular with locals but it looks like more and more tourists are also frequenting Sam’s. The line was long so we ordered takeaway— the waitress was extremely helpful!
Cheap and delicious. Staff is super friendly too. Hands down one of my favorite places on Maui.
Noodles were alright, nothing special. Maybe I was expecting too much because friends had really liked it and it was so busy. But it was honestly just your everyday Chinese wonton noodle type place.... great service though!!
Sam Sato is locals favorite place on Maui. I'm so glad that they have reopened and are able to conduct service during the covid19 restrictions. The staff have the same warmth and laughter and smiles to share with every person. Their food is still onolicious. Please have patience, be respectful and wear your face mask, and share aloha to those around you.
You have to go here. The teriyaki beef plate reminds me of my mom's cooking. I'm Japanese and I know good teriyaki beef. Food is great. Don't be intimidated by the location or you will be missing great local food.the employees are so nice.
Great Moco loco and dry noodles!
Always good food. Pancake, dry mein, teri beef sandwich.Just be ready to wait a bit.
Arguably the best food on Maui. Very much a local spot, if you are looking for the authentic plate lunch; a.k.a. Loco Moco. This is where you will find it. Be prepared to wait a bit in the hot sun and to dine with only locals. If you are adventurous try this place for sure. It is well worth it. The staff are very friendly. They will guide you on what to eat. My fiancé does not eat beef or pork, so her options were pretty limited. But the awesome waitress took the time to help her find something good. Must tries include the hamburger steak and noodles.
Incredible local spot serving up delicious dry noodles! Friendly and helpful staff as well, Mahalo 😊
Favorite Dry Mein and Yakitori chicken!!
This place is amazing but can have a long wait. Food is so good, simple and wick the wait is never to long.
Yaaaaas - this place is so good! • Be prepared to wait in line for a little to get seated. • They take credit card• Super casual, everyone is an auntie and uncle here. (+) Dry Mien - ohhhh yum. Love the texture of the noodles, they're still juicy. (+) Chicken was juicy, moist, flavorful(+) Yakitori was the same, juicy, moist, flavorful, tender.Weirdly enough when I was there I saw a lot of people getting the cheeseburger, grilled cheese sandwiches. They looked pretty average, but maybe there is something I'm missing there. Will have to try next time!
Three days in, best meal in Maui to date. Absolutely hearty, delicious dry noods. The beef skewers are phenomenal: sweet, charred, yum. Don't forget the lima manjus!
